The workshop revolves around the theme of the self-portrait seen both as an action of individual discovery and as an action that sets each person’s individuality in the context of a group. The aim is to use drawing exercises based on observation, symbolic drawing and drawing as a gestalt discovery process in order to succeed in deepening concentration and achieving a state of serenity so as to enter into contact with the self and to be able to communicate interior parts of oneself to others. The exercises wind up with a group conversation in which the object created becomes the basis for narrating oneself to the world.

Giulia Mangoni is an Italian-Brasilian artist whose practice revolves around the return ethic; she is interested in creating interventions orchestrated through the lens of painting in order to deconstruct notions of memory and identity associated with specific geographies and communities. Born at Isola del Liri near Frosinone in 1991, she was raised in Italy and Brasil and currently lives and works in the city of her birth. Mangoni has a Foundation Degree in Art & Design from Falmouth University of the Arts (2011), an honours degree in painting from the City & Guilds of London Art School (2014) where she won the Skinner Connard's Travel Prize and the Chadwick Healey prize for painting, and an MFA from the SVA Art Practice programme in New York City, (2019). She has shown her work at exhibitions both at the international level and in Italy.
