La Pelanda at the Mattatoio and other venues in the city will be hosting the third edition of IPER, Festival of the Suburbs, an initiative by the eponymous museum (the RIF), that this year will be addressing its “home” theme, asking itself whether there is a margin of some kind – a physical, mental or even simply a disciplinary space – with the features of a radical elsewhere, a blank area with no names on the map of the known, where people can indulge in wonder and exercise their imagination: a land of “lions” potentially capable of triggering paradigmatic revolutions and of hosting the residual divergent pathways of our time.
The illustrious guests of a kaleidoscopic programme, which can be enjoyed free of charge, include Michel Maffesoli, sociologist and Professor Emeritus at the Sorbonne, Chiara Bottici, philosopher and Gender Studies Department Director at the New School in New York, Veena Das, anthropologist and lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, USA, Franco Farinelli, geographer, Claudia Attimonelli, researcher in Media Studies and Visual Culture and Professor of Visual Studies, Digital Culture and Media, Massimo Donà, philosopher, jazz musician and lecturer in Theoretical Philosophy at the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan, Kristupas Sabolius, lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Vilnius (Lithuania) and a researcher affiliated to the MIT Climate Visions (USA), Gabriele Del Grande, writer, journalist and film director, Vincenzo Susca, lecturer in Sociology of the Imagination and Mediology at Paul-Valéry University in Montpellier, Matteo Pericoli, architect, author, draughtsman and founder of the Laboratorio di Architettura Letteraria and Giulia Morello, author and film director.
The artistes appearing at the festival include Lucamaleonte (author of the visual identity of the third edition), who will be showing a new series of posters at the Pelanda entitled “Wild Beasts”, Valeria Sanguini, who has produced a version of her “tent”, an installation and active encounter device, for Teatro 2 for the entire week, Karin Andersen, Binta Diaw and many more.
The events include a seminar paying tribute to Renato Nicolini and his “urban marvel”, a retrospective of documentaries produced by Raffaele Quattrone, a rich programme of performances, readings and video screenings, and a musical evening hosted by female cut on Saturday 15 June.
The programme also features two encounters devoted to militant rap music, one with the Assalti Frontali’s frontman and one with Scampia 'A67 lead singer Daniele Sanzone.
IPER Festival, third edition, is a project promoted by Roma Capitale and the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, and curated by Giorgio de Finis.
Castelvecchi editore and Filosofia in Movimento have collaborated on the third edition of the festival.
