Tomorrow Remember Yesterday reconstructs Adrian Tranquilli’s creative imaginary through works produced over the past thirty years, including sculptures, installations, videos and graphic works.
Moving away from the logic of a retrospective, the project breaks down the concept of “looking back” into a series of fragments that have shaped the artist’s imaginary and are now presented as though reconstructing a personal database.
The exhibition revolves around the comprehensive reconstruction of entire exhibition sections, including Futuro Imperfetto (1998); Know Yourself (2002); In Excelsis (2013–2025); Future Imperfect (1999); and The Unguarded Moment (2019). These are complemented by previously unseen works in the form of graphic novels, Don’t Forget the Joker (2007), centred on the relationship between hero and antihero, and A Little Black Book (2026), which offers a more self-reflexive perspective while recounting key formative stages in the artist’s development.
Alongside the works, the exhibition brings together materials related to cultural and social anthropology, artistic and musical references ranging from David Lynch to Jack Kirby, as well as rock, dark and post-punk music. Comics, graphic novels, first editions, vinyl records, letters and documents complete the exhibition, together with photographs by Claudio Abate documenting Pino Pascali and Gino De Dominicis in the spaces of Palazzo delle Esposizioni and L’Attico, respectively. These photographs broaden the context to encompass the Roman and Italian art scenes, bringing into focus the cultural layers from which Tranquilli’s practice emerges.
