Curated by Lucia Guarino and Nicola Vincenzoni
Can we, together, dream up a House of Dance in Rome?
In the heart of the Mattatoio – currently undergoing renovation – the idea and the desire is taking hold of creating a stable space devoted to contemporary dance, which the capital city still lacks.
A place capable of triggering new relations between people, new forms of artistic expression and a different interaction with the urban fabric.
This event has been devised to draw attention to that possibility, through two complementary moments: a performance workshop for dance, open to all, to explore together the concrete relationship between the body and space, through potential research on movement, guided by dancer Lucia Guarino. An open debate between those taking part in the workshop and a group of guests with whom to imagine the future of a House of Dance for Rome.
What might it look like? What role would it play in the city? We will be talking it over with artists, activists, town planners and architects.
Lucia Guarino & Nicola Vincenzoni
Lucia, a dancer and choreographer, and Nicola, a copywriter and translator, have been friends since their teens and grew up sharing a passion for the arts and performance. In the sincere belief that dance needs more space to express its civic function, they came together to launch the possibility of a House of Dance, an open, living participatory space in the heart of Rome.
