“I’ve never written a love letter but in recent years I’ve written over a hundred letters to people I don’t know”.
A participatory performance using communication by post as a tool for asking questions about our present reality.
The stage is occupied by a writing island, a large table with rough copies of old letters and blank sheets of paper yet to be filled with writing. The audience sits at the same table as the author/performer who, through narrative and the use of video, recounts her own experience, reflecting on time and space. A chain mechanism leading to the multiplication of writing and handwriting. Personal traces appear on the table and on the screen in a tale that reveals memory, biography and imagination. The solitary experience of writing becomes a shared experience in the performance, an intimate act is transformed into a public action.
Maria Luisa Usai: Performer, author and director of multidisciplinary performances and audio-visual projects. Since 2015 she has been working in city spaces and in the cracks in reality with community and site-specific experiments and with multidisciplinary creations. In the theoretical field she studied art history, in practice she has deepened the languages of the theatre, of dramaturgy, of the perfoming arts. She has presented her performative and audio-visual work at festivals and residencies both in Italy and abroad.
